Ownership

OPENDMS

one and all

ownership

opendms is predicated on a not-for-profit business model. It’s base premise is to provide a core team of people to co-ordinate the activity of the opendms community and for the community to “own” the outcome of all development.

All opendms products and services are provided on an equal share basis to the opendms community members; the more community members we get, the cheaper the cost to a single member

ownership

a new world

The 21st century has been responsible for many revolutionary business models and equally revolutionary business opportunities. None the least the growing world of open source products and cloud funding ownership.

The opendms project is a mix and customised match of both and, as discussed in “the new way” the ownership and success and failure of this endeavour is in the hands of the community members and their support for the opendms ethos.

opendms does not belong to anyone, it belongs to everyone. Becoming a member of the opendms community allows you to access the various industry support services and extending your membership to a dealer member attracts a monthly fee that is designed to cover the cost of service provision divided equally amongst all dealer members.

The monthly service fee entitles dealer users to access any and/or all opendms services. Further, the opendms middleware is accessible by third-party developers (community developers) who are able to create solutions for the dealer members and these community providers are free to commercialize their products how they see fit and the opendms community is equally free to take advantage of these products to compliment the opendms core offerings.

small steps lead to a long journey

As discussed in our “vision” opendms will be building a series of high value applications for the dealer members. These applications will all work within the boundaries of the opendms portal and middleware and be considered “core” to the opendms environment.

Ultimately, it is the dream of the opendms initiators to spread the product range to cover all aspects of modern dealership management (remembering that we consider “dealership” to cover all aspects of the automotive, agricultural, light and heavy haulage, recreational industries etc. Et al) ultimately providing a complete open source replacement for the dealership management system offerings of the traditional DMS companies.

But, back to the point. If you are an opendms  community member you are an equal owner of the community; it is really that simple.
